Hi! My name is Jodi VanDam and I am excited for the upcoming year at Central Elementary. This year will be my 19th year teaching in Kenowa Hills and have taught at the Middle School, Intermediate School, and now Central Elementary. Wow, that makes me feel experienced and ahem, old! :) Prior to starting my teaching career, I went to Grand Valley State University for both undergraduate and graduate studies. I chose to focus my studies on Learning Disabilities which has given me strategies to help all students learn. I value how each child has different ways of learning and respect that each child will at their own pace and/or specific way. I will do my best to make sure each child is learning and in return expect an equal amount of effort on his/her end. I love spending time with my family. My husband, Joel, and I have 2 boys that keep us on our toes! Solomon will be in 6th grade and Ethan will start 3rd grade. We love to camp, hike, play soccer and baseball, read, explore new places and hang out with friends. I am excited to see all the learning and growth that happens in EACH child. All the efforts and contributions to your learning will help you tremendously! In return, I will do my best to help you succeed. I am looking forward to working with you and your family to make it a memorable and special fifth grade year.
Mrs. Monroe
Hello! My name is Lisa Monroe. I can't wait to meet you and start our fifth-grade adventure together! I grew up in the Kenowa Hills school district, so I feel very much at home here. I attended Grand Valley State University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Psychology and Education and a master's degree in Elementary Special Education. My husband, Steve, and I have one son, Jake, who will be a sophomore this year! We are truly blessed to have him in our lives. Our family spends a lot of time at Jake's sporting events. We also enjoy hunting for Petoskey stones, playing golf and traveling! The upcoming school year will be one of learning and teamwork. Each child will be encouraged to contribute personally and academically. I believe that each student has unlimited potential and, to help students reach this potential, our classroom will be one of mutual respect and appreciation. I feel strongly that children receive many benefits if we (the student, parents, and teachers) act as a team. I value your input, questions and support tremendously. I am anticipating a fun and action-packed school year here at Central Elementary and an looking forward to working with you and your family! I will do everything I can to help each student have a successful school year.
